Michaelmas daisies are regarded by some gardeners as plants which can be left to look after themselves, bearing pink or lavender flowers each autumn on 3 ft stems. Such views are either wrong or incomplete. The Aster is certainly not a trouble free plant, powdery mildew and other diseases can be a serious problem and the staking of tall varieties will be necessary. Pale pink in colour.
A. alpinus thrives in full sun with average to poor, well-draining soil. Bloom time is from late spring to early summer, and sometimes mid-summer. Mature dimensions average 8 to 12 inches tall and wide.
