Astilbes are shade- and moisture-loving plants, bearing masses of ferny foliage, from which elegant plumes of feathery flowers appear from late-spring. They do best in woodland garden schemes where their pink or white blooms provide a splash of colour.
Garden Astilbe are a popular choice for shady gardens, where they perform well if given a rich, moist soil and regular watering. This is a midsize selection, ideal for the middle of the border. Plumes of pale pink to white flowers appear in midsummer over a mound of ferny green leaves. Also thrives in tubs, or mixed containers. Fertilize in April and June. Excellent for cutting. Seed heads may be removed, or left on the plant for winter interest. Plants should be divided every 2 to 3 years, in early spring. Will tolerate full sun, in cool summer regions.
