Berberis candidula is good for rock gardens and can be used as ground cover. This plant is easy to transplant and withstands severe pruning. Its grows low to the ground and is dense. The arching ridge stems create a hemispherical shape. This plant has medium to fine texture and prefers moist, well-drained soil.

It is a dense, mound-forming, evergreen shrub bearing ovate to elliptic, leathery, glossy, dark green leaves, often flushed red in winter, with inrolled margins and spiny tips. Bright yellow flowers in late spring and early summer are followed by oval, purple fruit in early autumn.

Plant in any well-drained soil except waterlogged in partial shade. Tolerates full sun but partial shade is best to avoid sun scorch. Protect from hard frost and cold, drying winds.
